About Fade to Grey

Learn more about us and what we do

My husband’s redundancy in May 2016 gave us the opportunity to change our lives and move from ‘the smoke’ to Dersingham in Norfolk, something we had been craving for a while.

When the retail shop at the corner of Manor Road and Sandringham Hill came up for rent in the village, we decided it was meant to be and we took a chance. Neither of us had ever worked in a retail environment before, but we just couldn’t resist the challenge and Fade to Grey was born.

Having done some research, we realised that the locals were keen for somewhere where they could buy gifts, greetings cards and helium balloons, so we decided to combine that with our idea to sell upcycled furniture. The combination worked well and it was not unusual for a customer to pop in for a birthday card and walk out with a rocking chair!

With the need for more workshop space, we took the decision to move the business to a new unit on the Sandringham Estate at the Sawmills just up the road before finally settling in our current location at the Granary in Snettisham. The Granary is open seven days a week from 10am until 4pm but as each unit takes it in turn to man the till, it allows us the time to paint furniture and run workshops

Alongside our painted furniture and chalk paint range, we are also excited to be stocking  unique personalised vintage signs which are suitable for indoor and outdoor use and are made in Britain.

Our furniture has been upcycled, it is in good used condition for its age. It is not new and you must expect imperfections such as marks, knocks, bumps etc which we feel adds to its character. Each piece has its own history and will show signs of its previous life. It is therefore possible that it may have previous repairs which we are unaware of.

All our items are hand painted and not sprayed, it is not a ‘factory style’ finish.

In regards to caring for your furniture, we would advise you to treat your piece of furniture as you would an antique. Avoid excessive water and objects which may scratch and use coasters under water glasses or cups. Clean with a soft cloth and avoid all liquid furniture polish. Following these simple rules will ensure you will be able to enjoy your piece of furniture for years to come
